The Africa Luxury and Wealth Summit (ALWS), sponsored by the Financial Times and Perrier Jouët was convened in Cape Town, South Africa on February 27, 2018. The ALWS is an industry forum that brings together leaders and senior executives in the field of luxury and wealth management.
This year's Summit examined the theme "Tectonic Luxury - Understanding and Decoding the Changes in a Dynamic Luxury Market" and our Editor-in-Chief, Ms. Aiwekhoe Iyahen was invited to speak on the subject "Luxury and the African Artisan". In her presentation, she highlighted the importance of African platforms that are integrated into the luxury market value chain and are able to adequately promote the work and tell the countless stories of craftsmen, designers, artists and makers from across the continent who have for generations been engaged in producing exceptional work and continue to do so.
We were also pleased to share the stage with an amazing array of international luxury brands as well as African luxury brands who are charting a new way forward - unpacking and redefining the concept of luxury in Africa and proudly embracing an African identity as global citizens.
